I only needed a few more courses when I left school. My job is now requiring me to complete my diploma. I want to be able to tell my children I am a high school graduate.
The diploma is issued locally through a partnership between the college and Haywood County Schools. Through careful evaluation of transcripts and an interview with staff, a determination is made regarding the number of high school credits needed and course of study necessary to complete the requirements for an Adult High School diploma. The Diploma is honored and accepted at community colleges, most private colleges, many universities, workforce development programs, and by employers as being equal to any other high school diploma earned across the nation.
When Tammy Leatherwood was a senior in high school 15 years ago, she found out she was pregnant with her first child. She knew the baby was her first responsibility. Her mom was sick and she could not afford child care. Lacking only a few credits to graduate, she quit school.
Our High School Equivalency formerly GED program offers adults who did not complete high school the opportunity to earn their high school credential. Our program has a student-centered focus designed to engage, motivate, empower and encourage success toward completion of the HSE diploma. The program meets p. Monday through Thursday on the main campus. The High School Equivalency Diploma is a way that adults who did not finish a formal high school program can receive a high school credential.
By legislation, Cooperative Innovative High Schools are designed to partner with an institution of higher education to enable students to obtain concurrently a high school diploma and complete an associate degree program within four or five years. HEC is designed to blend secondary and post-secondary experiences in innovative ways. All HEC faculty members commit to ensuring every student is actively engaged, challenged, and supported in all classes, every day, to succeed in rigorous coursework. Haywood Early College was developed through a partnership with Haywood County Schools and NC New Schools Project to provide higher education opportunities to students under-represented in colleges and universities.
